Big things start small.
Break tasks into smaller steps.
A task can tell you what needs doing without telling you where to start. Find the first thing you can actually do, not the whole plan.
Take the first stepThe big thing
The first step
Sort out my finances
Find last month's bank statement.
Get fit
Put my trainers by the front door.
Build a website
Write the first paragraph.
Small enough to start. Specific enough to do.
“Work on finances” still leaves you with a decision to make. “Find last month's bank statement” gives you an action with a clear finish. It doesn't solve everything, but it opens a way in.
Name what's on your mind
Write the task as it is. It doesn't have to be tidy or perfectly thought through.
Give it one next action
In Tad, the task and its next move sit together. Write your own action, or ask for a suggestion when you feel stuck. You decide what fits.
Keep the rest out of the way
Separate work, life admin and side projects into Spaces. When an action is done, clear it or decide what comes next. You don't need to map the entire project today.
You just need to know where to start.
